Fun Fact Friday: Topping Off August 13, 2021

You’ve probably heard of superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th, full moons, and black cats. But did you know there is one about sticking a tree on top of a steel beam? The practice of “topping out” a building can be traced to the ancient Scandinavian rite of placing a tree atop a timber building to appease tree-dwelling spirits displaced during construction. Today, a topping out celebration is traditionally held when the last beam is placed atop a structure during construction. #mbkahn #funfactfriday
