The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) has selected M. B. Kahn Construction's Richland County 911 Center for its 2026 Project Achievement Awards in the Government category.
Selected from a record number of submissions from across the country, these awards recognize projects that exemplify excellence in construction management through innovation, collaboration, and outstanding project delivery. Entries are evaluated on creativity, innovation, cost control, safety performance, and overall service to the client.
Completed for Richland County, the 911 Center transformed a portion of the former Columbia Place Mall into a state-of-the-art emergency communications facility through an adaptive reuse design. Delivered under a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) contract, M. B. Kahn worked collaboratively with Richland County, architect LS3P, and LLE Construction Group to establish a Guaranteed Maximum Price while fostering a team-oriented approach throughout design and construction.
The project was completed under budget and demonstrates how adaptive reuse can successfully convert an underutilized building into a critical public safety asset that will serve the community for decades to come.
"We're honored that the team's hard work has been recognized on the national stage," said Craig Floyd, Executive Vice President of M. B. Kahn Construction. "This award reflects the dedication and expertise of our project partners and highlights our experience delivering complex public safety facilities while giving existing buildings a new purpose."
Ross Tilton, Senior Vice President, will accept the award on behalf of the project team during the CMAA National Conference on October 5, 2026 in Denver, Colorado. All of the winners can be found at https://www.cmaanet.org/cmaa-project-achievement-awards-2026.
