College of Charleston Science Center Charleston, South Carolina
The College of Charleston School of Science and Mathematics is a 125,000 square-foot facility which focuses on undergraduate teaching and research. The lab space consists of more than 140 constant-volume fume hoods. The third floor houses the greenhouse and the Low Country Hazard Center. Lecture halls, exhibit ares, staff offices, cold rooms, chemical storage, classrooms, and laboratories are strategically placed throughout the building. Located in a busy urban area near the city’s historic district, height limits enforced by the city required the building systems to be placed into the limited ceiling space through extensive coordination and detailed fabrication.
