Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Project

boardwalk post 1M. B. Kahn's Coastal Division just completed the brand new Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Project in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Most recently, this project has been recognized by National Geographic as being the third nicest boardwalk in the United States along with Travel and Leisure magazine ranking the boardwalk as number two in the Nation.

Mark Kruea, spokesman for the City of Myrtle Beach, recently commented, "We're thrilled that the new oceanfront boardwalk has received so much national recognition in its first season.  It's a tremendous asset for the whole downtown area."

Over 29,000 carpentry hours with 270,000 nails and 555,000 screws constructed this 1.2 mile stretch of the boardwalk.  The project was completed ahead of the scheduled nine months for completion, with a project budget of 6 million.

M. B. Kahn is dedicated to providing a quality product to our clients.  This project will forever be a landmark for the City of Myrtle Beach, and the Coastal Division of M. B. Kahn is very proud to be a part of this history.

First Public Safety Facility in NC to achieve LEED Certification

The Transylvania County Public Safety Project was recently granted Silver Certification by the US Green Building Council.  The project was originally scheduled to be LEED Certified, but due to the hard work of the construction team members, we were able to secure the Silver Certification.  Located in Brevard, NC, the 63,000 sf facility includes a 114 bed detention occupancy and its related support space, Sheriff's offices, E-911 dispatch and Emergency Operations Center and county administrative offices.   Substantial Completion was reached in August, 2009.

"This project is the first public safety facility in North Carolina to achieve LEED Certification and one of only a small handful in the country", according to John Nichols, LEED AP with project architect Mosely Architects of Morrisville, NC.

 Green building elements included:

...preservation of forest and vegetated open space totaling over 50 percent of the site;

...an Energy Star compliant, highly-reflective roof membrane to lessen "heat island" effects and help keep the building cool;

...careful placement and selection of exterior lighting to conserve energy and reduce pollution of the night sky;

...over 30 percent reduction in water use through low-flow plumbing fixtures in both administrative and detention areas;

...energy and water efficient kitchen equipment;

...diversion of construction waste from landfills to recycling centers;

...recycled building materials and FSC-certified doors and casework;

...indoor air quality management plans and low-emitting building materials to safeguard occupant health; and

...individual lighting controls that enhance occupant comfort and reduce energy consumption.
